Heartbreaking Drowning Incident in Madhubani
Madhubani: A tragic incident unfolded in Madhubani district, Bihar, where five children from a single family drowned while swimming in a local pond on Wednesday, according to police reports.
The unfortunate event took place in Kerwar village, located within the jurisdiction of the Patauna police station. The ages of the children ranged from 10 to 15 years.
DSP Amit Kumar from Benipatti stated that seven children from the family had gone to the pond for a swim when the tragedy occurred.
Upon receiving alerts about the drowning, the station house officer promptly arrived at the scene and notified the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF).
The SDRF team initiated a rescue operation, successfully saving two children, who were subsequently taken to Benipatti Sadar Hospital, where they are reported to be in stable condition.
The bodies of the five children who lost their lives have been retrieved and sent to Madhubani Sadar Hospital for post-mortem procedures.
Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Jha expressed his sorrow over the incident, calling the deaths heartbreaking and offering condolences to the grieving family.
In a social media statement, Jha remarked, "The news of five children from the same family drowning in Kerwar village is profoundly tragic. I pray for the souls of the departed and for the family to find strength during this difficult time."
In response to the tragedy, the district administration has announced a compensation of Rs 4 lakh for each of the deceased children's next of kin.
