Nalbari, June 25: The bodies of two young individuals, including a 15-year-old girl, were discovered hanging from the same tree in a wooded area of Balitara village in Assam's Nalbari district on Thursday morning.
Authorities have initiated an investigation to determine the circumstances leading to their deaths, as confirmed by local police.
Family members and local residents reported that the two had been unaccounted for since late Wednesday night.
Villagers stumbled upon the bodies around 8 am while tending to their cattle. Both individuals were reportedly from the same village.
The father of the young man mentioned that he returned home from work around 11 pm on Wednesday and found his son there, but later he went missing.
"I attempted to reach him, but his phone was off. Eventually, I went to the police station with neighbors to file a report," he recounted.
When asked about any potential relationship between the two, he stated he was unaware of any.
This incident has left the village community in disbelief.
"We found them while taking our cattle out to graze around 8 am. The girl was a Class X student. Such an event has never occurred here before," a local resident expressed.
Police arrived at the scene after being notified and have sent the bodies for post-mortem examination. They indicated that further legal procedures are in progress.
Authorities noted that the exact circumstances surrounding the deaths remain unclear, and the definitive cause will be established following the post-mortem results and the completion of the investigation.
