Nagaon, Oct 22: The festive atmosphere of Durga Puja has been overshadowed by the unsettling discovery of three bodies, including that of an infant, across various locations in Nagaon district. One of the deceased was affiliated with the Koch Rajbongshi Students’ Union.

On October 19, authorities retrieved the body of a student leader, Parashmoni Deka, from a pond situated in the Saragaon area, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Raha Police Station. Deka held the position of vice-president within the Raha Anchalik Committee of the Middle Assam Koch Rajbongshi Students’ Union.

The circumstances surrounding Deka's death remain unclear, but there are suspicions that he may have been murdered and his body disposed of in the water. The Middle Assam Koch Rajbongshi Students’ Union has called for a thorough investigation and severe penalties for those responsible.

In a media statement, Union president Paresh Chandra Deka and general secretary Ratul Kumar Rajbongshi noted that Deka had been missing since approximately 11 PM on October 18. Despite extensive searches by family and union members, he could not be located until his body was discovered floating in the pond by passersby the following day.

The union has urged the Chief Minister of Assam to intervene, demanding a comprehensive inquiry into the incident and prompt identification and punishment of the offenders. The Raha police have initiated an investigation into the matter.

Additionally, on the same day, the body of Muksidul Haque was found at Bakultol under the Samaguri Police Station. Reports indicate that Muksidul had gone fishing on the evening of October 18, and his body was later discovered in a pond at Gare Matikhuwa.

Furthermore, a newborn's body was discovered on the roadside in the Bishnu Nagar area of Nagaon town yesterday morning.
