Missing Student's Body Discovered
Authorities confirmed on Tuesday that Sandarsh Krishna, a 26-year-old student from Arizona State University, has been found deceased in Grand Canyon National Park. Krishna had been reported missing during a hiking trip in late April and was located by National Park Service personnel on Saturday, May 9, below the rim near Verkamp's Visitor Center on the park's South Rim.
According to park officials, Krishna was last seen between 4 PM on April 27 and midnight on April 28. His last known location was identified along the Rim Trail near Hermit Road, situated between Bright Angel Lodge and Mohave Point. On the morning of April 28, a backpack believed to belong to him was handed over to hotel staff at Bright Angel Lodge, as stated in an update from authorities on May 1.
It was noted that Krishna had utilized a rideshare service to reach the park, and there was no vehicle registered in his name. In a recent interview with a local news affiliate, Krishna's brother, Adarsh, expressed his family's desire for clarity regarding the situation. "We need a proper closure. We don't know what exactly happened to him," he remarked, emphasizing that Sandarsh was not the type to harm himself.
Sandarsh had informed friends about his hiking plans and intended to return on April 28, according to family members. The Grand Canyon, known for its breathtaking views and extensive trails, spans over 270 miles of the Colorado River and surrounding land. It is recognized as a significant site for 11 contemporary Tribal Communities and is famed for its dramatic erosion, creating a canyon that is a mile deep and offers unparalleled vistas from both the north and south rims. Notably, the Grand Canyon has experienced a high number of disappearances over the years, attributed to its challenging terrain and popularity among visitors.
