Elderly Couple's Bodies Discovered in Salt Lake

Kolkata, July 30: A shocking incident unfolded in the Salt Lake area of Kolkata on Thursday morning when the bodies of an elderly couple were found in their residence, stirring concern among local residents.

The deceased have been identified as Sajal Kumar Kundu and his wife Ranjana Kundu, according to police reports.

Authorities revealed that the couple's son was not at home during the incident. He attempted to reach his parents in the morning but was unable to connect with them despite multiple calls.

Growing anxious, he reached out to a neighbor for assistance in checking on his parents.

The neighbor visited the couple's home and knocked on the door, but there was no response. Sensing something was amiss, the neighbor alerted other locals and the couple's son, prompting a call to the police.

Upon arrival, officers found the door locked from the inside. The couple's son, who had a spare key, opened the door to discover both parents deceased on their bed. Local residents mentioned that the woman had been battling cancer.

Reports indicate that the couple's son had been visiting his in-laws in Ultadanga with his wife the previous day and last communicated with his parents around 10 p.m. on Wednesday. When he called again Thursday morning, both phones were off, leading him to seek help from a neighbor.

During the investigation, a bottle of poison was found at the scene, leading police to suspect that the couple may have taken their own lives. However, officials are awaiting the autopsy results to confirm the cause of death, as no suicide note was located. The investigation is ongoing, with authorities examining all possibilities.
