Elephant Carcass Discovered in Nuakot Forest
On Saturday, a female elephant was discovered deceased in the Nuakot forest area, part of the Hindol forest range located in Dhenkanal district, according to sources from the Forest Department.
The elephant squad, who were on patrol, came across the carcass during their duty.
The precise reason for the elephant's death remains unknown at this time. Senior officials from the forest department, along with the veterinary officer from Hindol, arrived at the scene to perform a postmortem.
An investigation into the incident is currently in progress.
The rising number of elephant deaths, coupled with human casualties and agricultural damage resulting from human-elephant interactions, has led to increasing frustration among the local community in Hindol.
Residents have voiced their concerns, accusing both the government and the Forest Department of failing to take appropriate action, and are calling for urgent measures to tackle the ongoing crisis.
