Incident Overview

A 15-year-old boy, who left home early Wednesday to participate in a religious ceremony at a temple in Gerukatte, Belthangadi taluk, was discovered dead in a pond later that day, according to police reports.


Identification and Background

The deceased has been identified as Sumanth, a resident of Samboyla Baramelu and a ninth-grade student at Gerukatte High School. Police Superintendent Dr. Arun K. stated that Sumanth departed for the Dhanur Puja at the Gerukatte Nala temple around 4 AM, accompanied by two other boys.


Search Efforts

After waiting for a while without Sumanth's return, the other boys proceeded to the temple. Upon their arrival and finding Sumanth absent, they contacted his family, who confirmed he had left for the temple earlier that morning.


Discovery of the Body

During the search, locals noticed bloodstains near a pond along the route. Subsequently, Sumanth's body was recovered from the pond around 11:30 AM. Authorities have registered a case, and the actual cause of death will be determined following the post-mortem report.
