Tragic Death of Tezpur Man Following Alleged Lynching by Resort Staff

A tragic incident unfolded in Assam when a 35-year-old man from Tezpur was beaten to death by resort employees who suspected him of theft. The assault occurred at Mairas Resort in Hatimura, leading to the arrest of seven individuals. Despite being taken to the hospital, the victim was declared dead upon arrival. Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding this shocking case of mob violence, which has raised serious concerns about safety and justice in the region.
 

Incident Overview


A 35-year-old individual from Tezpur was fatally assaulted on Sunday in the Kamrup (Metropolitan) district, reportedly by a group of employees from a local resort who accused him of theft, according to police reports. Authorities have detained seven suspects in connection with the incident.


The violent encounter occurred at a private resort located in Hatimura, near Sonapur, close to Guwahati.


Law enforcement officials stated they received alerts regarding a suspected theft at Mairas Resort, where a man named Farjul Alom was allegedly detained and attacked by members of the public.


According to unnamed police sources, the resort staff grew suspicious of Alom, who had sought refuge at the establishment.


Manuj Boruah, the officer in charge at Sonapur Police Station, reported that the resort employees confronted Alom and began to physically assault him. As tensions rose, additional individuals joined in the attack.


Following the incident, police were notified, and a team arrived at the scene to take Alom into custody. He was subsequently transported to Sonapur District Hospital and later referred to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.


A preliminary investigation indicated that resort employees were responsible for the assault on Alom, and further inquiries are ongoing.


A case has been filed at Sonapur Police Station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita concerning mob lynching and causing serious injury.


The individuals arrested include Mustafizur Hoque (18), Chitra Das (28), Ram Sunar (32), Sushil Nath (28), Satyajit Haloi (26), Ranjit Brahma (35), and Manab Roy (25).
