Incident Overview

A deeply distressing incident has emerged from Ballia district in Uttar Pradesh, where a 42-year-old man reportedly died due to alleged police brutality. In response, authorities have filed charges against six individuals, including a sub-inspector, a constable, and a village head, under murder and related sections of the law. Alok Gupta, the police circle officer for the area, confirmed the developments.

Details of the Case

The action was initiated based on a complaint lodged by Vishal Gond, a resident of Gayghat village, under the jurisdiction of the Revati police station. The FIR includes charges against sub-inspector Sachin Saroj, constable Ankit Singh, village head Ashutosh Shankar Singh, Suraj Kannaujia, a relative, and Manish Yadav, citing relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.

Sequence of Events

According to the complaint, the conflict began on the evening of July 7 when Vishal visited Suraj's shop at Khedan Chauraha to purchase meat. An argument ensued between the two, leading to an alleged attack on Vishal by Suraj's relatives, who attempted to assault him with sticks. Fortunately, Vishal managed to escape.

Police Involvement

Following the incident, village head Ashutosh Shankar Singh, along with his driver Manish Yadav, forcibly took Vishal to the police station and filed a complaint against him. The next day, on July 8, police officers Sachin Saroj and Ankit Singh arrived at Vishal's home and took his father, 42-year-old Kamji Gond, into custody.

Allegations of Torture

Vishal alleges that under pressure from the village head, police officers brutally beat Kamji at the station to compel Vishal to appear. Later that evening, the village head and his driver took Kamji to a brick kiln, where he was further assaulted and subsequently abandoned in a nearby garden in a severely injured state.

Community Response

Local children discovered Kamji unconscious in the garden and alerted his family. They rushed him to the community health center in Revati, but due to his critical condition, he was referred to the district hospital. Following medical advice, he was transferred to a trauma center in Varanasi, where he sadly passed away on the night of July 10.

Public Outcry

On Sunday morning, when Kamji's body was returned to Gayghat from Varanasi, the villagers expressed their outrage. They staged a protest at Khedu Chauraha, demanding immediate registration of an FIR against the accused and their arrest. Circle Officer Alok Gupta assured the villagers of strict action against the perpetrators, leading to the conclusion of the protest. The police are currently investigating the case further.
