Officer Tarun Bali Dies in the Line of Duty


Constable Tarun Bali, a 29-year-old officer with Indian roots serving in Ontario, tragically lost his life while on duty on June 9. The incident occurred around 12:30 PM in the Hearst area, where he was engaged in an investigation, according to reports from local news outlets. Bali had been a member of the Dufferin Detachment for two and a half years and was working with the James Bay Detachment at the time of his death.


During the investigation near Kendall Concession Road 7 and Concession Road 6, an 18-year-old suspect allegedly struck Bali with a vehicle while attempting to evade capture. Following the incident, the police apprehended the teenager, who is now facing serious charges, including first-degree murder, as well as multiple counts of fleeing from police and dangerous driving.


OPP Commissioner Thomas Carrique confirmed that the suspect had escaped from a hospital where he was being evaluated under the Mental Health Act. Carrique expressed his condolences on social media, stating, “It is with deep sorrow that I confirm that #OPP Provincial Constable Tarun Bali was killed in the line of duty this afternoon in Hearst. His courage and commitment to serving others will never be forgotten.”

Ontario Premier Doug Ford also shared his sorrow regarding the incident, stating, “I am deeply saddened to hear of the death of OPP Provincial Constable Tarun Bali, who was killed in the line of duty today while serving in Hearst. On behalf of the people of Ontario, I extend my sincere condolences to his family, loved ones, and OPP colleagues. We honour his courage, service, and sacrifice.”
