Disturbing Incident in Himachal Pradesh

In a heartbreaking incident that has sent shockwaves through Himachal Pradesh, a 19-year-old former college student from Dharamshala has passed away after enduring severe mental and physical distress for nearly three months. This distress was reportedly instigated by ragging and harassment at her educational institution.

Legal Action Initiated

Following a complaint from the victim's father, local authorities have initiated legal proceedings against three students and a professor. This action comes after statements were gathered during the victim's treatment.

Allegations of Abuse

While hospitalized, the student made harrowing allegations, claiming that a professor had behaved inappropriately towards her and that senior students had subjected her to violence and intimidation. A video has surfaced showing her intermittently responding to questions, where she accuses a professor of misconduct.

Details of the Allegations

The student specifically named a professor, alleging that he persistently followed her and touched her without consent. Her family asserts that these experiences led to her severe trauma and depression. Additionally, she claimed that a senior student assaulted her with a bottle, while others mentally tormented her, making it difficult for her to attend classes.

Police Investigation Underway

The police have registered a case under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Anti-Ragging Act. The victim's father reported that his daughter, a second-year student, was assaulted and threatened by three students on September 18, 2025. He expressed that the inappropriate actions of a professor exacerbated her mental health issues.

Medical Treatment and Death

The student received treatment in multiple hospitals, including Dharamshala, Tanda, and Pathankot, before being transferred to DMC Hospital in Ludhiana, where she was placed on a ventilator. She tragically passed away on December 26, 2025, with her last rites conducted the following day.

Conflicting Statements and Ongoing Investigation

Two videos related to the case have emerged, complicating matters. One video shows the student describing the professor as 'good,' while another video from the hospital contains serious allegations. These discrepancies are now under investigation.

Reactions and Calls for Justice

The college principal stated that the student had failed her first year and was under stress due to financial issues. He denied receiving any formal complaints regarding ragging or harassment.
