Guwahati, Apr 2: A 25-year-old individual from Assam was reportedly killed by six of his coworkers in Perumbavoor, Kerala, on Wednesday morning, following suspicions of theft.
As per the local police, both the victim and the suspects, who are also from Assam, were working at a plywood factory in the region.
The attack allegedly occurred after the group accused the victim of trying to steal a mobile phone belonging to one of them.
Authorities stated that the victim was severely beaten before being transported to a nearby hospital, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries. Hospital staff subsequently notified the police.
"All six suspects have been apprehended and are currently under interrogation. We are gathering all pertinent information," a police representative mentioned, noting that a formal case has yet to be filed.
Investigations are ongoing to clarify the events that led to this tragic incident.
This occurrence has drawn attention at a time when Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has expressed growing concerns regarding the increasing fatalities among Assamese youths working outside their home state.
This incident follows a series of unfortunate events involving migrant workers from Assam in Bengaluru.
Just a month ago, Zubin Nath, a 25-year-old from Barpathar in Bijni, tragically died in an accident at a tile manufacturing facility on Magadi Main Road after reportedly becoming trapped in machinery.
Earlier in January, four Assamese youths lost their lives in a labor shed in the city, with suffocation believed to be the cause.
These recurring tragedies have heightened concerns regarding the safety and working conditions of Assamese migrants employed outside their state.
