Bangkok: A tragic accident occurred in northeastern Thailand on Wednesday when a construction crane collapsed onto a passenger train, resulting in the deaths of at least 12 individuals, according to officials.


The crane, which was part of a project to build an elevated high-speed railway, fell onto the train as it was en route from Bangkok to Ubon Ratchathani province. This incident caused the train to derail and subsequently ignite, as reported by the Public Relations Department of Nakhon Ratchasima.


In a Facebook update, the department confirmed that the fire has been brought under control and that rescue teams are actively working to locate any passengers who may be trapped inside the train.
