Mumbai, April 13: A devastating accident occurred in the Kalyan region of Mumbai on Monday, resulting in the deaths of nine individuals and leaving two others critically injured after a dumper truck collided with a car.
The incident transpired around 11 a.m. on the Rayta Bridge along the Kalyan-Murbad road, as reported by local authorities.
Initial reports indicate that the car was en route from Kalyan when it struck a mixer truck head-on.
Authorities confirmed that the deceased have been sent for post-mortem examinations, while the injured parties are receiving treatment at a nearby medical facility.
Following the accident, a team from the Titwala Police Station promptly arrived at the scene to conduct rescue and relief efforts.
Reports suggest that there were 12 passengers in the car at the time of the crash. Eight individuals died at the scene, and one succumbed to injuries at the hospital. Local residents attempted to assist the victims immediately after the collision.
The vehicle was heading towards Murbad when the accident occurred near Rayta Bridge, as per police statements.
Thane Superintendent of Police D.S. Swami confirmed the fatalities, stating, "As of now, nine individuals have lost their lives. Two others are critically injured and are currently receiving medical care."
Authorities have initiated an investigation into the accident's causes, with preliminary findings suggesting that excessive speed or loss of control may have contributed to the tragedy.
The collision also resulted in a significant traffic jam on the highway near Rayta Bridge, disrupting vehicular movement in the Titwala-Kalyan area, according to officials.
