According to Barun Purkayastha, the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of Sonitpur, the ambulance was transporting a patient along with family members to Tezpur Medical College when the accident occurred in the jurisdiction of Dhekiajuli police station on National Highway 15. He confirmed, "Six people died at the scene, and two are critically injured and have been admitted to Tezpur Medical College and Hospital."


Emergency services and police arrived promptly at the accident site to initiate rescue operations. The officer also mentioned that traffic on the highway, which was disrupted due to the accident, has since been restored.
