Horrific Crime Shakes Bokajan Community

Diphu, June 26: A shocking incident has occurred in Bokajan where a six-year-old girl was reportedly raped and murdered by a man named Ranjit Basumatary, also known as Babu. This brutal act has left the local residents in deep sorrow and disbelief.

The victim, who was the daughter of Suraj Purty and Sunita Purty, went missing around noon on Monday from Amarajan, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Bokajan Police Station in Karbi Anglong.

After her mother filed a missing person report, the police launched a search operation.

Sadly, on Tuesday, the girl's lifeless body was found in a well situated in front of a rented house close to her home. Authorities believe she was strangled, as indicated by the marks on her neck.

It is alleged that after committing the heinous act, the suspect disposed of the girl's body in the well and fled the scene.

Later that evening, locals discovered Ranjit hiding in a nearby forest. He was captured by the community and handed over to the police.

In a surprising twist, Ranjit attempted to flee from police custody that night. To thwart his escape, officers fired at him, injuring his leg.

He is currently in police custody and receiving medical care.
