Investigation Reveals Shocking Details

Amaravati: Authorities have revealed that the driver of a private bus involved in a deadly fire after a collision with a tipper truck in Andhra Pradesh's Markapuram district on March 26 was operating without a valid driving license. This tragic incident resulted in the deaths of 14 passengers.

The police have taken action by arresting both the bus driver, Yuvaraj, and the owner, Harikrishna Reddy. They were presented to the media in Markapuram, where Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Nagaraju disclosed that the travel company opted for Yuvaraj's employment to avoid the higher wages associated with hiring a licensed driver.

The bus, owned by Harikrishna Travels, was en route from Jagtial in Telangana to Kanigiri in Nellore district when it caught fire following a head-on collision with a tipper near Rayavaram.

In addition to the fatalities, 29 other individuals suffered injuries during the incident. The DSP noted that Harikrishna Reddy had acquired the second-hand bus just eight months prior, and despite its poor condition, he continued to operate it.

Investigations indicated that the bus was initially supposed to take a route through Vinukonda in Prakasam district. However, due to frequent mechanical issues, it was rerouted via a national highway.

Fire Services officials reported that the semi-sleeper bus was speeding at the time of the crash. The bus collided with the tipper, which was approaching from the opposite direction. Instead of swerving left, the bus veered right, striking the diesel tank of the tipper, leading to a fuel spill that ignited the fire.

The accident was exacerbated by the bus driver’s mistake of entering the wrong lane. Furthermore, the use of highly flammable materials within the bus contributed to the rapid spread of the flames.

Fortunately, the presence of an emergency exit door allowed approximately 20 passengers to escape unharmed.
