New York: A tragic bus accident has resulted in the deaths of five people, including two individuals of Indian origin, as the vehicle was returning from a visit to Niagara Falls, as reported by State Police.


The deceased have been identified as Shankar Kumar Jha, aged 65, from Madhubani, and Pinki Changrani, 60, a resident of East Brunswick, New Jersey.


The bus, carrying 54 passengers, was making its way back to New York City on Friday afternoon when the driver reportedly lost control, causing the bus to roll off the highway and into a ditch.


This unfortunate event occurred approximately 70 kilometers from Niagara Falls and around 600 kilometers from New York City.


The other three victims were of Chinese descent.


Passengers on the bus represented a diverse group, including individuals from India, China, the Philippines, and the United States.


Details regarding the injured passengers have not been officially disclosed, and it remains unclear how many other Indian nationals were aboard.


Some of the injured individuals were still hospitalized on Saturday, with conditions ranging from critical to stable, while others had been released after receiving treatment.


Following the accident, several injured passengers were airlifted to local hospitals via helicopter ambulances.


Authorities are currently conducting an investigation, with the National Transportation Safety Board involved.


Initial reports indicate that the driver showed no signs of impairment, and there were no mechanical issues with the bus. Investigators are exploring the possibility that the driver may have been distracted, leading to the loss of control.


Witnesses reported that the bus suddenly veered into the road divider and rolled over as the driver attempted to regain control.


The bus was equipped with an event recording device, similar to an aircraft's black box, which may provide valuable insights into the circumstances surrounding the accident.
