New Delhi: On Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his sorrow regarding the bus accident that occurred in Almora, Uttarakhand, which resulted in multiple fatalities.
Officials reported that a bus carrying approximately 18 passengers lost control and fell into a ravine on the Bhikiyasain-Vinayak road, leading to the deaths of at least six individuals.
In a message shared on X, the Prime Minister's Office conveyed PM Modi's sentiments: "The loss of lives due to a bus mishap in the Almora district of Uttarakhand is extremely saddening. Condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. May the injured recover at the earliest."
Rescue Efforts Underway
Uttarakhand's Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami also conveyed his deep sorrow over the incident, stating that rescue and relief operations are being prioritized.
He mentioned, "I have received the extremely distressing news of a bus accident on the Bikhiyasain-Vinayak Motor Road, which was en route from Bikhiyasain to Ramnagar in Almora district, resulting in casualties among the passengers. This incident is profoundly painful and heart-wrenching."
The Chief Minister further expressed his prayers for the deceased and their families, wishing for strength during this difficult time.
Details of the Incident
According to reports, the accident occurred near Shilapani on the Bhikiyasain-Vinayak-Jalali motor road. The bus had left Dwarahat around 6 a.m. and was heading towards Ramnagar when it lost control and fell into a gorge.
Six passengers were confirmed dead at the scene, while several others sustained injuries and were taken to the nearest government hospital in Bhikiyasain for treatment.
Emergency teams, including police and the State Disaster Relief Force (SDRF), quickly arrived at the site to assist with rescue operations.
Authorities are concerned that some passengers may still be trapped inside the bus, prompting ongoing rescue efforts.
Senior district officials are on-site to supervise the operations, which are complicated by the location being nearly 100 kilometers from the district headquarters.
Fortunately, both the driver and conductor of the bus are reported to be safe and in stable condition.
