Tragic Bus Accident in Tamil Nadu Claims Lives of Teachers
Devastating Road Incident in Salem District
A tragic road accident in Salem district of Tamil Nadu on Saturday has left the community in shock. A government bus lost control on the Salem-Coimbatore National Highway, veering off the road and colliding with several vehicles, resulting in the deaths of at least nine individuals. All the deceased were teachers hailing from Malappuram district in Kerala.
According to reports, the bus was en route from Coimbatore to Salem when the driver lost control at the 13th hairpin bend, causing the bus to veer off the road. It collided with a two-wheeler and an auto-rickshaw carrying approximately ten passengers before tumbling down at the ninth hairpin bend.
Details of the Victims and Injuries
The bus was transporting 13 tourists from Perinthalmanna in Kerala. Among them, eight individuals, including one man and seven women, tragically lost their lives at the scene. Five others, including the driver and two teenage boys aged 17 to 18, along with two women, were rushed to the government hospital in Pollachi. Unfortunately, one of the injured later succumbed to their injuries during treatment.
Immediate Response from Authorities
Tamil Nadu government officials acted swiftly following the incident. Upon receiving news of the accident, two senior police officers arrived at the scene to oversee rescue and relief operations. Fire and rescue service personnel were also deployed to assist in the immediate evacuation of the injured.
Condolences from Leaders
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed profound sorrow over the fatalities from the accident. The Prime Minister's office stated on social media, "I am deeply saddened to hear about the accident in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. I extend my heartfelt condolences to those who lost their loved ones in this tragedy and pray for the swift recovery of the injured."
Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan also conveyed his condolences regarding the loss of lives among Kerala's citizens. Reports indicate that Vijayan instructed officials to ensure that all injured individuals receive the best possible medical care.
Community Mourning
On Saturday, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge also expressed his grief over the tragic loss of life. Meanwhile, a wave of mourning has swept over the Pang-Palliparamaba Government Lower Primary School in Malappuram, as all the victims were employed there.
