Fatal Bus Incident in Dehradun

Dehradun, Feb 3: A devastating accident involving a Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) bus occurred in the Vikasnagar region of Dehradun on Tuesday morning, resulting in the deaths of three individuals and injuries to several others.

The incident took place near Sudoi Khad in the Kwanu area when the bus, which was en route from Chaupal-Nerwa to Paonta Sahib in Himachal Pradesh, reportedly lost control and fell into a deep ditch.

Three passengers were pronounced dead at the scene, while over 15 others sustained serious injuries, as confirmed by local authorities.

Officials reported that the bus had departed from the Chaupal depot around 6:30 a.m. and was traveling towards Paonta Sahib via the Minas-Kwanu-Haripur route, with more than 30 passengers on board.

The accident occurred around 10 a.m., with preliminary investigations indicating that the bus lost balance while yielding to a truck near Sudoi Khad, causing the road embankment to collapse. Consequently, the bus overturned and plunged into the ditch.

Local residents quickly arrived at the scene to assist with rescue and relief efforts.

Emergency teams from the police and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) were dispatched promptly after the incident was reported.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed his sorrow regarding the tragedy and stated that he is closely monitoring the situation.

“We have received heartbreaking news about the bus accident involving the Himachal Transport Corporation on the Kwanu-Minas Motor Road in the Kalsi area (Dehradun). I have communicated with the District Magistrate and provided necessary directives,” CM Dhami shared on X.

He further mentioned that the district administration and police have initiated prompt relief and rescue operations.

“All nearby medical facilities are on high alert. If required, seriously injured passengers will be airlifted to advanced medical centers. I pray for the safety and recovery of all passengers,” he added.

Rescue operations are ongoing, and authorities are expected to release more information soon.
