Tragic Bus Accident in Balasore: One Dead and Dozens Injured

A devastating bus accident in Balasore has left one person dead and 35 others injured after a truck collided with the bus. The deceased, Malaya Mohanty, was among the passengers on the 'Geetanjali' bus, which overturned following the impact. Twelve individuals are in critical condition and receiving treatment at a local hospital. The truck driver fled but was later caught by locals. An investigation is ongoing as authorities work to uncover the details of this tragic incident.
 

Fatal Collision on Bypass Road


Jaleswar: A tragic incident unfolded on Sunday when a passenger bus overturned after being struck by a truck on the bypass road close to Chalanti village in Balasore district. The victim, identified as 45-year-old Malaya Mohanty from Kharida village in the Bartana panchayat of Jaleswar block, lost his life in the accident. Among the 35 injured, 12 individuals are reported to be in critical condition and have been admitted to the district headquarters hospital in Balasore.


The accident occurred while the 'Geetanjali' bus, carrying 50 passengers, was traveling from Bhograi to Baripada via Jaleswar. As the bus navigated a diversion, it was hit from behind by a truck heading towards West Bengal, causing it to overturn. Local residents quickly arrived at the scene to assist and rescue those trapped inside the bus. The injured were initially taken to GK Bhattar hospital in Jaleswar for primary treatment, and the most severely injured were later transferred to the district headquarters hospital in Balasore. Unfortunately, Mohanty succumbed to his injuries near Rupsa.


The truck driver fled the scene but was apprehended by locals near the Laxmannath toll plaza, who then alerted the police. Authorities have since seized the truck and taken the driver into custody. An investigation is currently underway, and Jaleswar Municipality Chairman Pratap Pradhan has visited the hospital to meet with the injured passengers.
