Fatal Incident in Fatehgarh Sahib

Chandigarh: A tragic accident involving a bus transporting devotees from Anandpur Sahib occurred in Fatehgarh Sahib, Punjab, resulting in the deaths of six individuals and injuries to 21 others, as reported by local authorities on Wednesday.

The incident took place around 10 PM on Tuesday near Himmatpura on the Morinda-Chunni road in the Bassi Pathana region. The devotees, all hailing from Main Majri in Fatehgarh Sahib, were returning after participating in Baisakhi celebrations at Anandpur Sahib in Rupnagar district.

According to Fatehgarh Sahib Senior Superintendent of Police Shubham Aggarwal, initial investigations suggest that the bus may have experienced a mechanical failure.

The bus was carrying approximately 40 devotees at the time of the accident.

Among the deceased were six individuals, including one woman, while 21 others suffered injuries, as stated by Fatehgarh Sahib Deputy Superintendent of Police Raj Kumar.

Injured passengers were transported to various hospitals in Fatehgarh Sahib, Bassi Pathana, and Moinda (Rupnagar), with some being referred to the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) in Chandigarh.

Local residents quickly arrived at the scene to assist with rescue operations.

An injured woman recounted that the bus unexpectedly overturned just before reaching Main Majri village.

Bassi Pathana MLA Rupinder Singh, who visited the site on Tuesday night, confirmed that all the devotees were from Main Majri village.

Punjab Congress chief Amrinder Singh Raja Warring expressed his sorrow over the loss of life, stating, "Deeply saddened by the tragic bus accident near Bassi Pathana while devotees were returning from Anandpur Sahib. Heartfelt condolences to the families who lost their loved ones. Praying for the speedy recovery of the injured. May Waheguru give strength to the bereaved families in this difficult time."

Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia also expressed his condolences, saying, "Deeply saddened to hear about the death of 6 devotees in the tragic bus accident when devotees were returning from Sri Anandpur Sahib on Baisakhi. I pray before Waheguru Ji to grant eternal peace to the departed souls, give strength to the bereaved to bear this sorrow, and wish a speedy recovery to the injured."
