Jammu, April 20: A devastating road accident occurred on Monday in the Udhampur district of Jammu and Kashmir, resulting in the deaths of at least 12 individuals and leaving many others injured.


Dr. Jitendra Singh, the Union Minister of State (MoS) PMO and Lok Sabha representative for the Kathua-Udhampur constituency, shared on X, "I just spoke with DC Udhampur, Sh Minga Sherpa, after hearing about the tragic accident that took place less than an hour ago in Kanote village, involving a public transport bus traveling from Ramnagar to Udhampur."


He added that a rescue operation was promptly initiated. "Heavy casualties are anticipated. We are providing all possible support. The injured will be transported for medical treatment, and arrangements are being made to airlift those in critical condition. I am in continuous contact with local authorities and our team led by Sh Rajinder Sharma."


Manoj Sinha, the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, expressed his sorrow, stating, "The tragic road accident in Udhampur is heartbreaking. I extend my deepest sympathies to the families affected. May they find strength during this difficult time. I am praying for the swift recovery of the injured. I have instructed the district administration, police, SDRF, and health department to provide all necessary assistance to those impacted."


According to officials, the accident occurred near Jalo village on the Ramnagar-Udhampur road, resulting in the loss of 12 lives and injuries to several others.


"Twelve individuals have died, and numerous others have sustained injuries in this incident. A rescue operation is currently underway, with senior police, civil, and SDRF officials present at the scene. The bus was en route to Udhampur town from Ramnagar when the accident happened," officials reported.


The specific details surrounding the accident are still being investigated, and inquiries are ongoing.
