In Bhivandi, Maharashtra, a four-story building has collapsed, resulting in the deaths of at least eight individuals, with fears that four to five more may be trapped under the debris. Officials reported that a section of the Kohinoor building, located in the Balaji Nagar area, fell around 11:30 PM on Thursday night. Resident Deputy Collector Sandeep Mane confirmed, "At least eight people have lost their lives."

The deceased have been transported to a government hospital for post-mortem examinations. Rescue operations are ongoing as there are concerns that several individuals remain buried beneath the rubble. A minor was rescued in an injured state and taken to a nearby hospital. Municipal officials indicated that the building contained a total of 48 rooms, with 12 rooms on each floor.

This structure had previously been declared dangerous by the local authorities. The incident occurred while repair work was underway in the vicinity. An official noted that around 9 PM on Thursday, residents reported hearing loud cracking noises from the building. Sensing danger, local residents quickly assisted several families in evacuating to safer locations, but as some residents were exiting, the 'B' wing of the building suddenly collapsed.

A comprehensive rescue operation is being conducted on-site by teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Thane Disaster Response Force, and the local fire department. Resources deployed for the rescue include a dog squad, four fire engines, two ambulances, and heavy machinery for debris removal. Officials have stated that this monsoon season has seen at least 27 fatalities and 20 injuries related to rain-related incidents in Thane district, including this tragic event.
