Tragic Boat Capsize in Yamuna: Six Confirmed Dead, Search for Missing Continues
Boat Capsizes in Yamuna River, Casualties Reported
Mathura (Uttar Pradesh): A tragic incident occurred on Friday afternoon when a boat filled with tourists capsized in the Yamuna River near Vrindavan, resulting in the deaths of at least six individuals, with many others still unaccounted for, according to officials.
District Magistrate Chandra Prakash Singh confirmed the death toll, noting that all passengers were from Punjab.
"We have recovered six bodies so far, and between sixteen to seventeen individuals have been rescued. Search operations are ongoing for those still missing," the District Magistrate stated.
The boat was reportedly carrying more than twenty tourists. Rescue efforts are being conducted by teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), along with approximately fifty local divers.
A local diver named Gulab mentioned that around fifteen people have been successfully rescued so far.
Witnesses reported that the boat began to rock violently in the middle of the river due to strong winds, which caused it to accelerate and collide with a pontoon bridge, leading to its capsizing.
The police and local authorities are collaborating on the rescue mission, with divers searching the deeper areas of the river for missing persons. Senior officials, including the district magistrate and the superintendent of police, have arrived at the scene to oversee the operations.
