Boat Capsize Incident in Vrindavan
A tragic incident occurred in Vrindavan when a boat capsized in the Yamuna River, resulting in the deaths of at least nine individuals, with many others reported missing. The accident took place within the jurisdiction of the Vrindavan police station, involving approximately 25 passengers on board. Eyewitnesses reported that the boat overturned near the Shringar Ghat, raising concerns about several people potentially drowning. Upon receiving the news, police quickly arrived at the scene and initiated a rescue operation with the help of divers.
The incident has instilled fear throughout the area. According to reports, the boat lost balance unexpectedly, leading to its capsizing. Witnesses described the event as so sudden that passengers had no time to react or save themselves. Following the accident, chaos erupted as those who fell into the river struggled to stay afloat. Local residents rushed to assist, attempting to rescue several individuals from the water.
District Magistrate CP Singh confirmed that nine fatalities have been reported so far, while numerous others remain unaccounted for. The rescue efforts near Shringar Ghat are ongoing without interruption. Teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and local divers have entered the water to conduct search operations. Authorities have stated that the rescue mission will continue until all missing persons are located. A large crowd has gathered at the site, with family members anxiously awaiting news about their loved ones.
SP Rural Suresh Chandra Rawat mentioned that a section of the Yamuna River near Keshighat was where the boat sank. So far, 22 individuals have been rescued and transported to the hospital with the assistance of ambulances and eight police vehicles. We are currently assessing the situation to determine how many people are safe and how many lives have been lost. A pontoon bridge in the area was reportedly in a dilapidated state, and an agency was working on its repairs. It is suspected that the accident may have occurred during this maintenance work.
