Incident Overview

In a heartbreaking incident in Vrindavan, Mathura, a boat capsized after colliding with a pontoon bridge on Friday afternoon. Approximately 25 to 30 devotees were aboard the vessel at the time of the accident. So far, reports confirm that 10 individuals have lost their lives, all of whom were traveling from the Shringa Ghat.


Moments Before the Tragedy

A video captured just before the incident shows the devotees joyfully chanting 'Radhe-Radhe' and clapping, seemingly unaware of the impending danger. Notably, none of the passengers were wearing life jackets, indicating a serious lapse in safety protocols by the boat operator.


Rescue Operations Underway


Rescue teams have successfully saved 15 individuals, who are now receiving medical attention at local hospitals. Divers from the army and PAC are actively involved in the search efforts, with NDRF and SDRF teams also deployed. As of the evening, five to six devotees remain unaccounted for, prompting ongoing searches in the Yamuna River.


Casualty Report

DIG Shailesh Pandey confirmed that 10 people have died, 12 are injured, and five are still missing. The search for the missing individuals continues, with hopes that rescue teams will locate them soon. The injured have been rushed to Mont CHC Hospital for immediate care.


Possible Causes of the Accident


It has been reported that the pontoon bridge was removed due to ongoing work on the Yamuna, which may have contributed to the instability of the boat. Local authorities have arrived at the scene, and a heavy police presence has been established. The administration has urged the public to remain calm and avoid spreading rumors.


Group from Punjab Involved

Investigations reveal that a group of 150 individuals from Ludhiana, Punjab, and Mukteshwar were part of the ill-fated trip. The boat they were on has also capsized and is currently being searched for. The boat operator was a private individual.
