Fatal Incident on Delhi-Mumbai Expressway
Jaipur: A tragic accident occurred on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway in Alwar district, Rajasthan, where five individuals lost their lives when their car unexpectedly caught fire. Officials reported that the incident took place late Wednesday night, with the driver managing to escape the flames and currently receiving medical care.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Kailash Jindal stated that the fire broke out around midnight near Pillar Number 115/300, within the Maujpur police jurisdiction. The vehicle was en route from Delhi to Kota when it ignited for reasons still under investigation. The fire spread rapidly, leaving no opportunity for the passengers to escape.
The deceased included three women, a young girl, and one man, all hailing from Sheopur in Madhya Pradesh. Sadly, they were all trapped in the vehicle and perished in the blaze.
The driver, identified as Vinod Kumar Mehar, also from Sheopur, was able to leap from the moving car but sustained severe injuries, with approximately 80% of his body burned. He is currently in critical condition.
Local residents alerted the authorities, prompting a response from the NHAI patrolling team and an ambulance. A police unit from Laxmangarh, led by SHO Nekiram, arrived quickly and called in the fire department. Three fire engines were dispatched to extinguish the flames, but by then, the car had already been reduced to ashes.
The injured driver was first taken to the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Pinan and later transferred to Alwar for advanced treatment due to his serious condition. Senior officials, including DSP Jindal and Superintendent of Police (SP) Sudhir Chaudhary, visited the site to evaluate the situation and provide necessary instructions.
Authorities are actively working to identify the victims and ascertain the cause of the fire.
