In Hubli, Karnataka, a pregnant woman became the victim of a brutal attack allegedly orchestrated by her family due to her inter-caste marriage. The incident left her critically injured, and she later succumbed to her injuries at a private hospital.


Authorities reported the incident on Monday, stating that three individuals, including the victim's father, were arrested in connection with the attack that occurred on Sunday evening.


According to police, the 20-year-old woman was assaulted with pipes and agricultural tools, leading to her death. This tragic event took place in the Inam-Veerapur area of Hubli rural taluk.


Background of the Victim

The young woman had married a man from a different caste in May, despite her family's opposition. Fearing for their safety, the couple had been residing in Haveri but returned to their village earlier this month.


Reports indicate that on Sunday, her relatives attempted to attack her husband and father-in-law while they were in the fields, but they managed to escape. Subsequently, the assailants broke into the victim's home, where they attacked her, along with another woman and a man.


Investigation and Legal Action

Due to the severity of her injuries, the six-month-pregnant woman was rushed to the hospital, where she unfortunately passed away. A case has been registered at the Hubli rural police station, and an investigation is currently underway.
