Devastating Incident in Tiruvallur District

A heartbreaking incident has emerged from Tiruvallur district in Tamil Nadu. On Sunday, an ammonia gas leak at a seafood export facility resulted in the tragic deaths of two individuals, while 46 employees were rushed to the hospital for treatment. This unfortunate event occurred at the 'St. Peter's Paul Seafoods Exports' factory located near Periyapalayam.

NDRF Team Mobilized for Rescue Operations

Upon receiving news of the gas leak, the fourth battalion of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) stationed in Arakkonam was promptly alerted. A specialized team of 30 NDRF commandos was dispatched from Chennai to the scene. Equipped with personal protective gear, gas detection devices, and specialized CBRN (Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear) rescue tools, they immediately commenced relief and rescue operations.

High-Level Investigation Ordered by Chief Minister

In response to this serious incident, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Joseph Vijay has ordered a high-level investigation. A three-member committee has been formed under his directives, comprising the Director of Industrial Safety and Health, the Member Secretary of the Pollution Control Board, and the Additional Director of the Public Health Department.

Urgent Report Requested Within 24 Hours

The investigation committee has been given a deadline to submit an initial report within 24 hours and a final report within three days. The Chief Minister has also instructed the state's IT minister and the minister in charge of Tiruvallur district to reach the site immediately. Additionally, monitoring officer Dr. K.P. Karthikeyan has been tasked with ensuring that the victims receive the best medical assistance in collaboration with the district collector and local administration.
