New Delhi, August 8 - A tragic incident occurred on Saturday morning in the Narela area of Delhi, where a Mercedes car collided with another vehicle, resulting in the death of a 70-year-old woman who was walking nearby, according to police reports. Preliminary investigations indicate that the crash happened around 8 AM in front of the Himalaya Apartments in the Mamurpur locality.
The impact of the collision was so severe that the Maruti Wagon-R was propelled backward, crashing into a nearby three-wheeler. The driver of the Mercedes has been identified as Shubham, who was apprehended at the scene. Sources reveal that he is the son of a sub-inspector with the Haryana police.
Witnesses claim that the driver appeared to be under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident. A senior police official stated that Urmila, a resident of Mamurpur, was caught between the two vehicles and suffered critical injuries, leading to her death at the scene.
According to police, the driver of the Wagon-R sustained minor injuries and received medical attention. They also confirmed that there were no reports of any other individuals being seriously injured. Following the incident, a police team from the Narela station arrived at the location to initiate an investigation.
The police have indicated that a case will be registered at the Narela station, and the woman's body has been sent for a post-mortem examination.
