Hyderabad, August 20: A heartbreaking accident in Telangana's Siddipet district resulted in the deaths of four family members, including two young children, as their vehicle fell into a well, according to police reports on Thursday.

The tragic event took place late Wednesday night near Appanapalli in the Dubbaka mandal of Siddipet.

The victims have been identified as D. Raju (30), his spouse Bhagya (25), their son Nihansh (4), and daughter Shanvika (2).

All four were residents of Balwanthpur village in the same district. Raju, who worked as a sand trader, was driving back home with his family after attending the 'Dasa Dina Karma' (10th day rituals following a death) of a relative in Siddipet.

As they approached Appanapalli, Raju reportedly lost control of the car, which then plunged into an open well adjacent to the road. Local residents quickly notified the police and fire services.

Emergency responders utilized a crane to retrieve the vehicle and recover the bodies from the well.

The deceased were transported to the government hospital in Dubbaka for postmortem procedures.

Preliminary investigations suggest that overspeeding may have contributed to the accident. Authorities have registered a case and are actively investigating the incident.

In related news, Director General of Police C. V. Anand reported that approximately 8,000 individuals lost their lives in road accidents across Telangana last year.

The police chief emphasized that road safety is a top priority, with recent manpower restructuring allocating 224 personnel specifically for Traffic Management and Road Safety to enhance enforcement and accident prevention efforts.

Plans are underway for collaboration with engineering and other governmental departments to pinpoint accident-prone areas and address infrastructure issues.

A statewide road safety initiative is also in the works, following directives from Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to establish a dedicated bureau for traffic management and road safety.

The Chief Minister has called for a thorough examination of the transportation system and has mandated that the bureau be structured institutionally, with regular reviews every two to three months to assess traffic management strategies.
