Tragic Accident Claims Five Lives in Himachal Pradesh
Fatal Incident on Chamba Highway
On the night of July 28, a tragic accident occurred on the Bharmour-Pathankot state highway near Lahad in Chamba district, Himachal Pradesh, resulting in the deaths of five individuals, including four family members. The family was en route to Pathankot for medical treatment for their three-month-old sick child when the vehicle plunged into a deep gorge.
Authorities have identified the deceased as the sick infant, along with his grandfather, Vachan Singh (60), father, Ripun Singh (30), and mother, Rimpi Devi. The fifth victim has been named as Kirti (23), all residents of Gehra village in Chamba.
Currently, the cause of the accident remains unknown. Initial reports suggest that the driver lost control of the vehicle, leading it to fall approximately 400 meters into the gorge. Vijay Saklani, the Superintendent of Police in Chamba, stated, "The bodies have been retrieved from the gorge and sent to Dalhousie Hospital for post-mortem. An investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the accident."
Upon receiving news of the incident, police and rescue teams promptly arrived at the scene. However, the challenging terrain and nighttime conditions posed significant difficulties for the rescuers. Local villagers also assisted the police and rescue teams during this operation.
