Tragedy Strikes: Stampede at Mansa Devi Temple Claims Lives
Devastating Incident at Mansa Devi Temple
Haridwar: On Sunday, Uttarakhand's Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed his sorrow regarding the tragic stampede at Mansa Devi Temple, confirming that rescue and relief efforts are currently in progress.
According to SSP Pramendra Singh Dobal, the stampede, which occurred early Sunday morning, has resulted in the deaths of at least six individuals.
CM Dhami shared on X, "We have received extremely distressing news about the stampede at Mansa Devi Temple. Teams from Uttarakhand SDRF, local police, and other rescue units have arrived at the scene and are actively engaged in relief operations."
He further stated, "I am in constant communication with local authorities to monitor the situation closely. I pray for the safety of all devotees."
The chaos erupted due to an overwhelming number of devotees at the temple during the holy month of Shravan, leading to overcrowding.
Eyewitnesses described scenes of panic as individuals began to push each other while waiting in line, resulting in a sudden rush.
Rescue operations were initiated promptly, with medical teams and ambulances arriving quickly to transport the injured to nearby hospitals for urgent care.
Authorities have confirmed that relief efforts are ongoing, and the situation remains under close observation.
More information regarding the incident in Haridwar is awaited as officials continue to evaluate the circumstances.
Every year, Haridwar experiences a significant influx of pilgrims during Shravan, particularly at the revered Har Ki Pauri and Mansa Devi Temple.
However, this year, the situation escalated due to the excessive crowd, leading to a stampede that highlights the critical need for effective crowd management at religious events.
This unfortunate event adds to the alarming trend of stampedes in India in 2025, with over 50 fatalities reported in similar incidents at religious sites, railway stations, and public gatherings.
