Tourism Thrives in Longding District of Arunachal Pradesh
Tourist Arrivals Surge in Longding
Itanagar, Dec 31: Longding district, situated in the easternmost region of Arunachal Pradesh and previously affected by insurgency, has seen a notable increase in tourism, with 827 visitors recorded in November this year.
As per the monthly report from TK Kopak, the District Tourism Officer, the visitor count included 803 domestic tourists and 24 international travelers.
Kopak emphasized the district's tourism potential, citing its stunning natural landscapes, historical landmarks, diverse ecosystems, and a pleasant summer climate. He noted, "The district's rich Wancho cultural heritage offers significant opportunities for cultural tourism."
The steady rise in tourist numbers is viewed as a positive development for the state's tourism industry, which is expected to enhance the local economy.
Kopak mentioned that upon taking office, he conducted a reconnaissance trip to Senua village, approximately 2 km from Longding town, alongside local youth to evaluate its potential for future tourism activities.
During this exploration, several promising tourist attractions were discovered, including Longpan Kho (a scenic viewpoint), Kun (a large rock cape), Zak Tikhot (a natural freshwater spring), and Paannu Paan-sa-sho (rocky pathways).
Additionally, the Tourism Officer recently trekked to the Hornbill Waterfall in Khogla village, organized a bike rally for World Tourism Day, and visited Wakka village to explore its tourism prospects.
A senior police official confirmed that there have been no incidents reported involving tourists in the district to date.
Earlier this year, Kaimoi village received the 'Best Tourism Village Award' from the State Tourism Department during World Tourism Day celebrations, a recognition attributed to the collaborative efforts of local leaders, the Women's Society of Kaimoi, the Kaimoi Village Students' Union, and the community, with support from the PHE and Water Supply departments and the District Tourism Office.
In 2022, the Union Ministry of Home Affairs designated new tourist circuits, including Dibrugarh-Deomali-Hukanjuri-Khonsa in Tirap district and Dibrugarh-Kanubari-Longding in Longding district, bringing the total number of tourist circuits in Arunachal Pradesh to 14.
