Tornado Warning Issued for Weston Area


A tornado was confirmed to have touched down close to Weston, Wisconsin, on Friday afternoon, leading to a warning from the National Weather Service based in Green Bay. At approximately 4:55 PM CDT, the tornado was detected 11 miles northeast of Weston, or 14 miles east of Wausau, advancing northeast at a speed of 30 mph. Authorities characterized the situation as life-threatening, with law enforcement verifying the tornado's presence on the ground.

The warning, which was active until 5:30 PM CDT for northeastern Marathon County, underscored the severe dangers posed by the storm. Officials cautioned that flying debris could be fatal, particularly for individuals lacking adequate shelter. Mobile homes were anticipated to suffer destruction, with significant damage likely to residences, businesses, and vehicles, and the potential for total devastation in certain areas.


Weston was projected to experience the tornado around 5:00 PM CDT, with other locations such as Sunset, Ringle, Nutterville, Hogarty, and Glandon also in the storm's trajectory. Residents were strongly advised to seek immediate shelter in an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building, away from windows. Those in vehicles, mobile homes, or outdoors were urged to find the nearest substantial shelter and protect themselves from flying debris.

The tornado was classified as observed, presenting a significant threat of damage, with no hail reported. In a related note, a particularly dangerous situation (PDS) tornado struck Lena, Illinois, while additional tornadoes were sighted across the Midwest amid severe thunderstorms affecting the region.
