TMC MP Mahua Moitra Criticizes Madan Mitra's Shift Amid ED Summons

In a recent political twist, TMC MP Mahua Moitra has openly criticized Madan Mitra's decision to join a rebel faction led by Ritabrata Banerjee. She connects this shift to the Enforcement Directorate's summons sent to Mitra's family, suggesting that his actions are a direct response to the ongoing investigation into a municipal recruitment scam. Moitra's remarks highlight the irony of Mitra's sudden change in allegiance, as he had previously denounced the rebel group. This development raises questions about the influence of legal pressures on political decisions in West Bengal. Read on for more insights into this unfolding political drama.

Mitra's Decision Sparks Controversy

Mahua Moitra, a Member of Parliament from the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and a close ally of party founder Mamata Banerjee, publicly dismissed the recent decision by MLA Madan Mitra to join a rebel faction led by Ritabrata Banerjee. She linked this move directly to the Enforcement Directorate's (ED) summons sent to Mitra's family. Speaking to a news agency in Kolkata, Moitra remarked that this development was not unexpected. She noted that the ED had summoned Mitra's wife, daughters-in-law, and sons the previous day, suggesting that his decision was influenced by the ED's actions.

A senior official revealed on Tuesday that the ED plans to question members of Mitra's family next week as part of an investigation into a money-laundering case related to an alleged municipal recruitment scam in West Bengal. Moitra pointed out the sudden change in Mitra's stance, highlighting the irony of someone who had criticized the Ritabrata faction just days earlier now sitting alongside them.

With a hint of humor, she expressed her best wishes for Mitra, hoping he enjoys his time working with the Ritabrata group, emphasizing that his actions seemed to be a direct response to the ED's summons. On Wednesday, Mitra announced his party switch while seated next to Ritabrata Banerjee, the leader of the rebel faction and the opposition leader in the West Bengal Assembly. Mitra claimed he had merely changed his seat in the Assembly and denied any connection between his decision and the ED's summons to his family.
