TMC MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar Resigns from All Party Positions Amid Discontent

In a surprising turn of events, TMC MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar has resigned from all her party roles, highlighting growing discontent within the Trinamool Congress. This resignation follows her public criticism of the party leadership and comes after Mamata Banerjee reassigned key roles within the party. Amidst claims from BJP MP Soumitra Khan about potential defections of TMC legislators to the BJP, TMC leaders have dismissed these allegations as unfounded. The political landscape in West Bengal is becoming increasingly turbulent, raising questions about the future of the TMC.

Political Turmoil in TMC

In a significant political setback for Mamata Banerjee and her party, TMC MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar announced her resignation from all party roles on Wednesday. The MP from Barasat has stepped down from her position as the president of the Trinamool Women's Wing, among others. Recently, she had publicly expressed her dissatisfaction with the party leadership. This resignation follows Banerjee's decision to remove Dastidar from her role as the chief whip of the TMC parliamentary party, handing the responsibility to senior MP Kalyan Banerjee.

Recent Developments

Earlier on Tuesday, Kakoli participated in an administrative review meeting led by West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari in Kalyani, alongside six other legislators. Present at the meeting were TMC MLAs Anisur Rahman Biswas from Deganga, Bina Mandal from Swarupnagar, Mohammad Abdul Mateen from Haroa, and three other MLAs from the Basirhat area. BJP MP Soumitra Khan made a sensational claim, stating that nearly 50 TMC MLAs and 20 MPs are extremely dissatisfied with the party leadership.

Potential Shift to BJP

According to Khan, if the BJP's central leadership gives the green light, these leaders are fully prepared to leave the TMC and join the BJP. He warned that if the BJP leadership permits, the TMC could cease to exist as a political force, with many eager to depart. Khan also launched a scathing attack on TMC's national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee, labeling him as 'sinful' and asserting that wrongdoers must face consequences.

TMC's Response

In response to Khan's claims, TMC MP Sougata Roy dismissed the BJP leader's statements as baseless. Roy stated that there is no truth to Khan's assertions, calling them entirely false and accusing the BJP of spreading misinformation. He emphasized that nothing of the sort is going to happen.
