TMC Faces Internal Turmoil Over Allegations

Under the leadership of Mamata Banerjee, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) is facing yet another controversy. Party MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar has formally lodged a complaint with Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla against her colleague Kalyan Banerjee. Dastidar has accused the TMC's chief whip of misconduct and disrespect towards female MPs within the House.

In her letter dated May 28, 2026, the Barasat MP claimed that Banerjee frequently engages in inappropriate behavior and has called for action and punishment regarding this matter. Following TMC's significant defeat in the assembly elections, Mamata Banerjee replaced Kakoli Ghosh with Kalyan Banerjee as the chief whip. Since then, a cycle of mutual accusations has emerged within the party's parliamentary group.

Dastidar, once considered one of Mamata Banerjee's closest allies and a veteran leader in the party, has recently become a vocal critic of TMC's leadership and organizational operations. In her letter to Speaker Om Birla, she alleged that Kalyan Banerjee's behavior was not isolated and claimed that several other female MPs have faced similar treatment from him.

This latest action comes just a day after Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar resigned from several organizational positions within the TMC. Previously, she had stepped down as the president of the TMC's Barasat parliamentary constituency, taking moral responsibility for the party's poor electoral performance in the region. Shortly thereafter, she also resigned from her role as the president of the All India Trinamool Women's Congress and relinquished other organizational responsibilities.
