TMC MP Accuses BJP of Communalizing Minor's Rape and Murder Case in West Bengal

TMC MP Kirti Azad has accused the BJP of attempting to politicize the tragic case of a minor girl's alleged rape and murder in West Bengal. He stressed that the focus should be on justice rather than communal narratives. Azad criticized the government's delayed response and highlighted the ongoing violence against women in the state. His comments followed a candlelight march led by Mamata Banerjee, which condemned the incident and called for accountability. The situation has sparked public outrage and protests, raising questions about the government's commitment to addressing such crimes.

TMC MP's Strong Allegations Against BJP

On Tuesday, TMC MP Kirti Azad accused the BJP of attempting to communalize the alleged rape and murder of a minor girl in Baruipur, West Bengal. He emphasized that the victim's religion should not matter, and the focus should be on delivering justice. Speaking to the media, Azad claimed that instead of addressing the crime, the BJP was trying to give the incident a communal twist.

Criticism of Government's Response

Azad pointed out that the BJP sees a communal angle in everything. He stated, 'A girl's life has been lost. Whether she is Hindu, Muslim, Sikh, or Christian, she was raped.' He criticized the government for taking four days to issue a statement regarding the rape, contrasting it with the swift action promised in the RG Kar incident, where the government vowed to act within a week of the elections. Two months have passed since then, and the victim's mother, BJP MLA Rekha Debnath, has expressed that nothing has been done by the government during this time.

Ongoing Violence Against Women

The TMC MP further alleged that crimes against women are on the rise and criticized the BJP's handling of law and order. He mentioned a recent incident involving a minor tribal girl in his constituency of Durgapur, questioning the accountability of the BJP. 'Numerous rapes are occurring, people are being murdered, and they are being treated horrifically in police stations. This is West Bengal. The BJP shows no concern for these issues,' he stated. Azad accused the BJP of lacking moral integrity and suggested that such incidents will continue to surface as they focus on Hindu-Muslim rhetoric to sway public opinion.

Response to Candlelight March

Azad's remarks came a day after TMC leader Mamata Banerjee led a candlelight march condemning the alleged rape and murder of the 12-year-old girl in Baruipur. The minor had gone missing on Saturday and was later discovered dead in a pond, sparking public outrage and protests. TMC leaders have alleged that Banerjee was prevented from meeting the victim's family, while the party insists it stands firmly with them.
