TMC Leader Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar Resigns from All Party Positions

Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, a prominent leader in the Trinamool Congress and close associate of Mamata Banerjee, has resigned from all party positions following a significant administrative meeting. Her resignation comes in the wake of the party's recent electoral setbacks and highlights ongoing issues within the party's leadership dynamics. Dastidar's departure is seen as a major blow to the TMC, given her long-standing loyalty and influence in the party. This article delves into the implications of her resignation and the reactions it has sparked within the political landscape.

Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar Steps Down from TMC Roles

Following her resignation from the position of Barasat district president of the Trinamool Congress (TMC), Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, a senior TMC MP and close aide of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, has stepped down from all organizational roles within the party. This development occurred just hours after she attended a significant administrative meeting chaired by Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari.

In her resignation letter, Ghosh Dastidar expressed her deep sorrow and concern, stating, 'I request to resign from the position of President of the All India Trinamool Women’s Congress, along with other organizational roles, committees, and responsibilities.' She further emphasized that remaining in such a position was meaningless when the disrespectful behavior of an uneducated and uncivil party MP towards a female MP could not be addressed, nor could she expect support and sympathy from senior leadership. Her remarks were a pointed critique aimed at Kalyan Banerjee, a TMC MP and lawyer-politician from the Serampore constituency, who was reinstated as the party's chief whip in the Lok Sabha following the TMC's electoral defeat.

As news of the reshuffle in Parliament spread, Dastidar reacted on social media with a cryptic post, stating, 'I have known Mamata Banerjee since 1976 and have been working with her since 1984. Today, I received the reward for my four decades of loyalty.'

This resignation has dealt a significant blow to the TMC, especially in light of their recent electoral losses, as Dastidar has long been viewed as a key ally of party supremo Mamata Banerjee and held considerable influence over the party's organization in North 24 Parganas, once regarded as a strong urban bastion for the party. Alongside maintaining close ties with party workers, Kakoli has also been vocal in Parliament, frequently criticizing the BJP-led central government.
