Mumbai, April 1: A brief moment of panic occurred at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport on Wednesday when a piece of tissue paper inscribed with the word 'Danger' was found in the lavatory of an IndiGo flight.
The Mumbai Police reported that the alarming note was discovered while IndiGo flight 911 was being readied for its scheduled departure from Mumbai to Ahmedabad. The aircraft was located near Gate No. 5 when the note was uncovered, raising immediate concerns among airport officials.
In response, airport personnel quickly notified security forces, including the fire brigade and police, due to fears of a potential bomb threat. This discovery led to a temporary state of alarm at the airport, with emergency protocols activated as a precaution.
Authorities promptly informed the Police Control Room and the nearest police station. A Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) team was dispatched to the scene to conduct a comprehensive inspection of the aircraft. Security teams also performed an extensive search of the plane and its vicinity to eliminate any possible threats.
After a thorough investigation, officials confirmed that no dangerous or suspicious items were present on board. The alert was ultimately deemed a false alarm, and the situation was treated as a precautionary measure against a potentially serious threat.
A case has been filed against an unidentified person, and investigations are ongoing to uncover the origin and intent behind the note.
Once the situation was resolved, airport operations gradually resumed, and passengers were reassured of their safety. Officials highlighted that stringent security measures facilitated a prompt response, preventing any escalation of the incident.
In a related incident on March 29, a Frontier Airlines flight experienced a security scare at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport in the United States. Reports indicated that a passenger allegedly made a verbal bomb threat and threatened another traveler while the plane was taxiing to the gate.
The pilot quickly notified Air Traffic Control, and the aircraft was redirected to a secluded area. Law enforcement responded swiftly, allowing passengers to safely exit the plane using airstairs before being taken to the terminal.
Authorities have reiterated the necessity of vigilance and encouraged passengers to report any suspicious behavior to maintain safety and security at airports.
