Hockey India Announces New Coaching Appointment

On Friday, Hockey India officially revealed that Tim White has been appointed as the Coach for the Indian Junior Women's Hockey Team. The Australian coach, who recently led the Accord Tamil Nadu Dragons in the Hockey India League in January 2026, aims to nurture the next wave of international hockey talent.


Tim White's Impressive Coaching Background

Tim White boasts a remarkable coaching history, including recent achievements in Belgium and experience with the Australian teams. Prior to his move to India, he coached the Belgium Under-21 Women's Team, leading them to a Bronze Medal at the 2025 Junior World Cup in December. From 2021 to 2024, he was a key member of the coaching staff for the Belgium Women's National Team, helping elevate their world ranking from #12 to #3 and achieving a semi-final finish at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. Earlier in his career, he served as the National Junior Coach for Australia, where he also earned a Bronze Medal at the Junior World Cup.


Vision for the Future of the Team

In his remarks regarding his new role, Tim White expressed, "Having recently coached the Tamil Nadu Dragons, I was inspired by India's deep passion for hockey and its vibrant culture. I have witnessed the incredible young talent while competing against India at Junior World Cups, and I consider it a privilege to work with such dedicated athletes in a full-time program. My aim is to develop technically proficient players who can transition into the senior team."


White elaborated on his vision for the squad, stating, "I intend to simplify the game while emphasizing our collective and individual strengths. Our focus will be on playing attacking hockey while maintaining strict discipline in our defensive strategies. It is essential that we train hard physically to sustain high performance throughout the entire match. By mastering fundamental skills under pressure and adopting a 'team-first' mentality, we will be well-equipped for any international competition."


Hockey India's Strategic Move

The appointment of White is viewed as a strategic initiative to infuse modern tactical discipline into the junior ranks of Indian hockey. His extensive experience includes serving as the National Junior Coach for Hockey Australia and managing high-performance pathways in Europe.


Hockey India President Dilip Tirkey expressed enthusiasm about White's appointment, stating, "We are thrilled to have Tim White join us. His impressive record with Belgian and Australian junior programs, particularly his success in leading teams to podium finishes at Junior World Cups, speaks volumes.
