Tim David Penalized for Conduct Violation in IPL 2026 Final
Tim David Fined and Suspended for Code of Conduct Violation
Tim David, a player for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), has been fined 50% of his match fee and received two demerit points for violating the Indian Premier League (IPL) Code of Conduct during the final against Gujarat Titans (GT) held at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday. This incident has led to David accumulating a total of five demerit points, resulting in his suspension for the first match of the next IPL season.
Details of the Violation
The IPL released a statement on Monday confirming that David breached Article 2.9 of the league's Code of Conduct. This article prohibits players from throwing any cricket equipment, including items like water bottles, at or near players, officials, umpires, or any other individuals in a dangerous or inappropriate manner during a match.
The incident occurred during the 10th over of the first innings when David, after a wicket fell, threw an ice bag aggressively towards umpire Nitin Menon. The IPL's statement clarified that this action constituted a breach of the Code of Conduct.
Consequences of the Breach
David acknowledged his wrongdoing and accepted the penalty imposed by match referee Javagal Srinath. This incident marks David's third Level 1 breach this season, having previously received one demerit point in Match 20 and two in Match 54. With the addition of two more points from this latest violation, he now faces a one-match suspension as per IPL regulations. Consequently, he will miss RCB's opening match of the next IPL season or the first game of whichever franchise he plays for in IPL 2027.
RCB Clinches IPL 2026 Championship
In the IPL 2026 final, RCB secured their second consecutive title by defeating GT by five wickets. This victory makes RCB only the third team, alongside Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Mumbai Indians (MI), to successfully defend their IPL title. The team, led by Rajat Patidar, restricted GT to 155/8 in the first innings and chased down the target with five wickets in hand and two overs to spare, with Virat Kohli scoring an impressive 75 runs off 42 balls.
