Conviction of Three Individuals in Narayanpur

Raipur/Narayanpur, August 11: A Special Court operating under the National Investigation Agency (NIA) Act has sentenced three individuals to prison and imposed fines for their involvement in supplying explosive materials intended for Naxalite operations in the region.

The convicted individuals are identified as Chameli Bai, Ravi Markam (also known as Sushil), and Kosru Vadde. The court reached its verdict based on testimonies from witnesses and substantial evidence gathered during the investigation.

Each of the defendants received a sentence of seven years of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 1,000 under Sections 4 and 5 of the Explosive Substances Act, 1908. Additionally, they were sentenced to two years of rigorous imprisonment and fined Rs 500 under Section 10(1) of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, and five years of rigorous imprisonment with a fine of Rs 500 each under various sections of the UAPA.

The case was initiated following a tip-off received by the Narayanpur police on March 19, 2024. An informant disclosed that certain individuals in Taragaon village had hidden explosive materials—including potassium nitrate, Cordex wire, and detonators—within bundles of medicinal herbs, intending to deliver them to Naxalite groups.

Upon acting on this information, police officials recovered four detonators, seven sacks of potassium nitrate, seven meters of red Cordex wire, and two mobile phones from the accused individuals.

Due to the gravity of the situation, the investigation was handed over to the state investigation agency based at the police headquarters in Raipur. Interrogations and technical evidence revealed that the explosives were meant to be transported from the Narayanpur market to Taragaon via Ravi Markam and Chameli Bai for distribution to Naxalite operatives and their suppliers.

During the investigation, Kosru Vadde, a resident of Gawadi village under the jurisdiction of Thulthuli Panchayat in Orchha police station limits of Narayanpur district, was also implicated as an accused. He was subsequently arrested by the State Investigation Agency and placed in judicial custody.

Upon concluding the investigation, a chargesheet was submitted to the Special Court (NIA Act) in Narayanpur.

The Narayanpur Police and the state investigation agency affirmed their commitment to taking stringent actions against individuals supporting Naxalite activities and will pursue legal action against anyone involved in actions that jeopardize law, order, and security.
