Three Arrested in Alleged Gang Rape of Student at Kolkata Law College

Authorities have detained three individuals in connection with the alleged gang rape of a student at a law college located in South Kolkata. Reports indicate that the incident occurred on Wednesday evening, between 7:30 PM and 10:50 PM, within the college premises.
The suspects have been identified as Manojit Mishra, aged 30, Pramit Mukherjee, 20, and 19-year-old Zaib Ahmed. According to police sources, one of the accused is a former student of the institution, while the others are currently enrolled.
Following a complaint lodged by the victim, a first information report was registered at the Kasba Police Station, leading to the arrests. Mishra and Ahmed were apprehended on Thursday at Siddhartha Shankar Sishu Roy Udyan, near Talbagan crossing, while Mukherjee was taken into custody at his home on Friday.
On Friday, all three suspects were presented in court and subsequently remanded to four days of police custody. A medical examination of the victim was carried out at Calcutta National Medical College and Hospital.
Investigators have begun interviewing witnesses and collecting their statements, with the crime scene secured for forensic analysis.
This incident follows a tragic event nearly ten months prior, where a junior doctor was raped and murdered at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata, sparking widespread protests across medical institutions in the region.
