The Hidden Dangers of Refined Oil: A Health Crisis in India
The Alarming Impact of Refined Oil
When preparing meals, the use of oil is almost indispensable, as it enhances the flavor and texture of various dishes. However, recent findings reveal a troubling aspect of refined oil that has led to numerous fatalities. According to research from the Kerala Ayurvedic University, refined oil is responsible for approximately 2 million deaths annually in India.
Health Risks Associated with Refined Oil
The consumption of refined oil has been linked to a range of serious health issues, including DNA damage, RNA destruction, heart attacks, blockages, brain damage, diabetes, hypertension, impotence, cancer, weakened bones, joint pain, back pain, kidney damage, liver dysfunction, cholesterol problems, reduced vision, reproductive issues, and skin diseases.
How Refined Oil is Processed
The extraction of oil from seeds involves removing the outer shell, and during this process, impurities are introduced. To make the oil odorless and colorless, it undergoes refining. This involves washing the oil with water, salt, caustic soda, sulfur, potassium, acids, and other hazardous substances to eliminate impurities. This process generates a thick waste similar to tar, which is often repurposed for tire manufacturing. The presence of acids in the oil can render it toxic.
