Tezpur Flyover Project Faces Delays, Commuters Demand Urgent Action
Concerns Over Tezpur Flyover Construction
Tezpur, Dec 24: The ongoing construction of a multi-crore flyover at Mission Chariali in Tezpur has become a source of frustration for local residents. Daily commutes through the busy intersection near the construction site have turned into a challenging ordeal.
The flyover, which spans approximately 3.2 kilometers from Balipukhuri Tiniali-Kumargaon to the Poruwa-Don Bosco High School area, commenced on March 1, 2020, with an estimated budget of Rs 275.9 crore. Originally slated for completion in 2026, the slow pace of work raises concerns about meeting this deadline.
Additionally, the service roads on the western side, particularly from BP Tiniali to the first flyover pillar in Kumargaon, have deteriorated significantly. These roads, which are currently being utilized as service routes, are riddled with large potholes, leading to a chaotic traffic situation and contributing to numerous accidents.
The disorganized construction efforts have resulted in heavy vehicle traffic creating a tumultuous environment from morning until midnight. The lack of timely repairs on the service roads has exacerbated the situation, with potholes growing larger and posing serious risks to both commuters and their vehicles.
Local commuters have voiced their frustrations regarding the poor condition of the roads and the apparent negligence of the construction company. They have criticized the authorities for failing to ensure prompt repairs, which have significantly impacted daily travel for the past few years. Many drivers have expressed their dissatisfaction with the disorganized work and inadequate maintenance of the service roads, emphasizing the urgent need for repairs to alleviate delays during peak school and office hours.
The deplorable state of the service roads forces drivers to navigate through potholes and uneven surfaces, resulting in prolonged traffic jams and heightened accident risks.
Residents have lamented the ongoing lack of proper maintenance and planning in the flyover construction area, which stretches about 3.2 kilometers from Torajan Kumargaon (BP Tiniali) to Porua Chariali via Mission Chariali. Commuters often bear the consequences of the authorities' neglect. Expressing their dissatisfaction with the delays in completing the costly flyover, both commuters and local residents have described navigating these roads as a nightmare, not only during the rainy season but throughout the year. Furthermore, they have criticized the careless dumping of construction materials along the roadside.
“It’s not just inconvenient; it’s downright hazardous. Nowadays, even short trips take an eternity, and the risk of accidents is ever-present,” remarked a local resident.
Frustrated residents have called on Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to step in and expedite the completion of the flyover construction.
