Internal Conflicts Emerge in Karnataka's Congress Party

The ruling Congress Party in Karnataka is facing significant internal challenges. A power struggle appears to be brewing between Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, prompting legislators to take action. On Tuesday, two separate meetings held at a luxury hotel in Bengaluru stirred the political landscape of the state.

At least 45 legislators convened at the Shangri-La Hotel in Bengaluru to discuss their chances of joining Siddaramaiah's cabinet. Following a dinner meeting, they decided to meet with the Congress high command in New Delhi on March 26.

One of the attending legislators remarked, "We are either first-time or second-time MLAs. We will present a memorandum to the Chief Minister and AICC, requesting cabinet positions for some of us. We also seek clarity on the ongoing political rift within the government ahead of the 2028 elections."

Parallel Meetings and Concerns Over Party Image

In a parallel meeting, N.A. Harris, the president of the Bengaluru Development Authority and a four-time MLA, met with several senior Congress legislators to advocate for their inclusion in the government. These political developments emerged shortly after over 25 Congress legislators gathered for dinner at a private hotel, fueling speculation about potential changes in Karnataka's leadership.

Sources indicate that during the March 12 meeting, legislators extensively discussed the party's declining image and warned that internal issues could impact the government's prospects in the upcoming 2028 Karnataka Assembly elections.

Ongoing Leadership Discussions Amid Cabinet Meetings

Interestingly, this meeting coincided with the Chief Minister presiding over a cabinet meeting at Vidhana Soudha. On March 4, Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, who is reportedly entangled in the power struggle with the Chief Minister, stated that he is exercising patience and has no intention of instigating a "revolution" regarding the Chief Minister's position.

Political observers note that the recent gatherings and public statements from senior leaders have intensified discussions about the future leadership of the party in the state.
